Lockdown 3.0: How to Stay Motivated?

Coronavirus has been difficult for all of us. In the midst of another national lockdown, we must all take time to reflect on the past year, what have we learned? 

The first thing to remember is that most things right now are completely out of our control. At times it is hard to resist the feelings of hopelessness. Though this is something that is sweeping the nation. At Least there's some sense of solidarity, we’re all in this together right? What I’ve also learned from this is that I am not alone in my lack of productivity. Obviously, no one, or at least very few people, will be working at their optimum during the pandemic and that is fine. I’ve been working with what I have and making the most of the situation. Positives of the pandemic; I’ve started running again, rediscovered my love for painting, and I'm learning to be more present with my family- a few things ‘normal life’ doesn’t always allow time for. 



I have also spent much more time watching Netflix, scrolling through Instagram, and just being a bit lazy! That is also fine! As we continue on in our third lockdown, I have become accustomed to a few coping strategies that I think might be useful to share; 


1. Be active! 

Here at BiG we recognize the importance of staying active. With the guidance to stay it home, it seems all too easy to wallow away into a pattern of late mornings and netflix marathons. Though getting out in the fresh air, even just for half an hour each day, makes you feel like you have accomplished something. Try not to isolate yourself from the rest of the world. 

2. Self - care is key

Take time to relax, try out some meditation or make a healthy meal. I know it sounds obvious, but taking care of yourself is essential! Exercises like this can help reduce the anxiety that you might be feeling during the pandemic. 

3. Connect

Coronavirus has demonstrated that although we might not be able to see each other in person, this won’t stop us from socialising online! Make sure that you stay connected with your friends or family. Fun ways of doing this is setting up a zoom quiz, virtual disco, even a facetime come dine with me! Any way that you can maintain regular virtual contact with others will prove extremely beneficial. Human interaction is key to maintaining a healthy mindset. 

4. Lastly, don’t put too much pressure on yourself 

People only post their best bits online, don’t worry, we are all going through it. If you’re having an off day, don’t beat yourself up. Let yourself be a bit lazy, we're living through a pandemic. That's just my two cents, hope it helps!
